"Soon we will need to be wearing parkas," one partygoer commented on the increasingly chilly temperatures at the latest Building Fashion fete underneath the Highline. But it turned out that there were enough beverages -- and Smarties! -- to keep everyone's mind off the cold. This time around, Building Fashion founders BOFFO and Spilios Gianakopoulous teamed up with Richard Chai and Snarkitecture -- a firm that specializes in working on designs within existing spaces -- for this latest installation, which will be open to the public through Halloween and held its private kickoff party with The Last Magazine on Friday night. Jamie Johnson, Vogue's Jill Demling, and Bonnie Morrison were among the guests who returned to the Supima Cotton Garden and checked out Chai's pop-up boutique, which in his own words resembled a "glacier cave." Weather appropriate, I guess! But this shop is actually perfectly suited for Chai, who told me that he did not wish to showcase his collection in a straightforward retail environment. So what is for sale at the latest Highline boutique? Among other things, clothing from Chai's fall collection, shoes from his spring collection, and original penguin polos designed specifically for this event. Just remember to bring your credit cards, as checks are not accepted. The next (and final) installation for Building Fashion? Siki Im and architecture firm Leong Leong, beginning on November 5th. Come back if you want to see how the fashion set dress in layers!
