College Sex Columnists Explain How To Salvage A 'Bad Hookup'

When two people hook up in college for the first time, there's no easy way to predict whether that first encounter will bring a fiery night of passion or an awkward half hour of banging around before declaring "The End."

With both options at stake, it's worth putting in some effort to have an experience more in the vane of the former, argues Margot Harris, sex columnist for the Brown Daily Herald at Brown University.

"If you're hooking up with someone for the first time and you don't know each other that well and maybe you're a little bit drunk, sometimes you aren't operating maybe as well as you might otherwise, sometimes you need to take time to get to know each other and figure out what works for you," Harris said during a HuffPost Live segment. "I'm definitely up for second chances if something doesn't go quite right the first time."

But how should you proceed when you experience a sub-par tryst with a compelling love interest?

"At the end of the day, if this is something you see turning into an actual relationship and really liking the person, maybe it is worth it," Harris advised. "You can give it a try and then maybe over time things will improve. But if this is just for a hookup, it doesn't really matter then."
