Bad Sex Awards 2012: The Worst Sex Scenes Of The Year

The Worst Sex Descriptions EVER?

The Literary Review announced the eight nominees for their annual Bad Sex Awards last week. The competition aims to highlight the "crude, tasteless, often perfunctory use of redundant passages of sexual description" that are often present in modern literary novels.

Ben Masters and Tom Wolfe (a past winner) were among the nominees. Some notable exclusions were J.K. Rowling, who was considered for her clunky sex descriptions in her first novel, The Casual Vacancy, and E.L. James, who could not be considered due to the erotic nature of her book.

Today, The Literary Review began tweeting passages from some horrible sex scenes throughout literary history (even Keats was included) under the hashtag #LRBadSex2012. Most are riddled with awkwardly scientific descriptions and horse references. Others include too many exclamation marks! And still others are weirdly flippant, such as our favorite: "I spanked her bottom and cranked up the tunes."

They kindly do not name the books from which the scenes are from, but a Google search can easily solve that problem.
