Barbara Walters had a personal message for her friend Donald Trump on Thursday: stop the birther antics.
Trump, who has made his birther views well-known, recently teased a "big announcement" that he said could change the course of the election. On Thursday, the real estate magnate offered Obama $5 million for the charity of his choice in exchange for releasing his college transcript. The world has been mocking Trump with renewed vigor ever since.
On Thursday, Walters was clearly dismayed by Trump's antics. After some spirited discussion at the roundtable, she broke in with a personal message for Trump that she wanted to say "to his face." Speaking directly to the camera, she said:
Donald, you and I have known each other for many years and you know that I am your friend and I think you are a brilliant businessman and you are great on television and you have a fascinating personality.
Donald, you're making a fool of yourself. You're not hurting Obama, you're hurting Donald and that hurts me because you're a decent man. Stop it. Get off it, Donald.
Trump did not take too kindly to her words. On Thursday, he tweeted, "Barbara, unfortunately you've missed the entire point of my announcement--you just don't get it!"
He continued, "will apologize to me just like she did when I was right about @Rosie. Besides, I get great ratings on The View."
