Barbara Walters Heatedly Defends Woody Allen Against Dylan Farrow Allegations

Barbara Walters Heatedly Defends Woody Allen

Barbara Walters gave a heated defense of Woody Allen on Monday's edition of "The View."

Allen has come under fire after his daughter Dylan Farrow spoke out publicly about what she said was Allen's sexual assault of her when she was 7 years old. Allen has, of course, denied the claims, and Farrow's open letter sparked a huge conversation in the media and entertainment world.

Walters said she has spent a lot of time with Allen and his current family.

"I have rarely seen a father as sensitive and as loving and as caring as Woody is," she said.

When Jenny McCarthy wondered what Farrow would have to gain from dredging up such a painful controversy, Walters said, "Supposedly she's very angry, but she's doing it now because he's up for an award."

"We've heard so many cases of people going, 'he's the most wonderful person in the world!'" Sherri Shepherd said.

"That's not what I'm saying," Walters said. Shepherd pointed out that he had begun a relationship with his current wife when she was just 17. "It's not that far off," she said.

"Oh yes it is," Walters interjected.
