Barbra Streisand, 'Skinny And Cat': Singer Returns To Directing After 16 Years With Cate Blanchett & Colin Firth Film

She Hasn't Done This In 16 Years ...

At the age of 70, Barbra Streisand continues to prove that she won't be defined by the an insanely catchy dance song that bears her name. Instead, she's doing something she hasn't done for 16 years: Directing.

Showbiz 411 reports that Babs will helm "Skinny and Cat," an "epic love story" starring Colin Firth an Cate Blanchett. The film is about a writer and a photojournalist's relationship and will be independently financed. The release is slated for January 2013.

Her last directing gig was for 1996's "The Mirror Has Two Faces," starring herself, Jeff Bridges, Lauren Bacall and a host of other big names. That film earned a slew of Golden Globe and Oscars nods, with Bacall winning the former award for Best Supporting Actress. Babs herself has won two Oscars, eight Grammys, five Emmys, a Special Tony and four Golden Globes.

As Not Starring notes and Vulture reminded us, Streisand once wanted to star in "Skinny and Cat" across Robert Redford, but Firth and Blanchett are certainly more than capable actors.

Anyways, it's Friday, so here are some Barbra Streisand gifs.
