Quick-Thinking Pilot Aborts Landing, Jukes Out Of Close Encounter On Spanish Runway

WATCH: Pilot Aborts Landing After Close Encounter On Spanish Runway

An apparent near miss between two passenger jets at Barcelona's El Prat Airport in Spain, Saturday, has prompted an investigation by the country's airport authority, AENA.

A YouTube video of the planes' close encounter shows a Boeing 767-300, operated by Russian airline UTair, coming in to land, then pulling up at the last second for a "go-around" as an Airbus A340-300, operated by Aerolíneas Argentinas, taxis across the runway.

NBC reports the UTair plane landed safely after the maneuver, and that neither airline filed a safety complaint afterward. Nevertheless, AENA told The Local, an English-language Spanish news site, it will look into the incident.

The Aviation Herald, citing radar data, reports the Boeing was less than 20 seconds from touching down when it pulled up.

Jalopnik notes the video was likely filmed with a long telephoto lens, which tends to make distant objects appear closer to one another than they really are.
