The Best Barbecue Flavored Potato Chip Brands

Taste Test: The Best Barbecue Potato Chips

With grilling season upon us, it's time to revel in all things barbecue -- yes, even chips. Barbecue is one of the top-selling flavors of potato chips at the supermarket, but it also tends to be a flavor that people either love or hate. (Let us know what you think in our poll, below.)

The flavors that create the barbecue flavor in potato chips don't exactly replicate the real flavor of an outdoor barbecue -- we all know that. But the chips are still sweet and spicy nonetheless, usually from a combination of salt, honey powder, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, tomato powder, and hickory smoke powder (yeah, that's a lot of powder). There's also an ingredient called autolyzed yeast in most barbecue-flavored chips -- it's most commonly found in Vegemite or Marmite.

We found 12 major-market brands of barbecue-flavored chips to test in our blind tasting. We weren't able to get our hands on all of the obscure regional flavors out there, like the hard-to-find Lay's Tangy Carolina BBQ that several of our Facebook fans rave about, but we want to hear about your favorites. Make sure you chime in by adding a slide to our slideshow.

So which brands performed the best? Check out the results below.

As always, this taste test is not involved with or sponsored by the brands included.
