Watch Beau Biden's Moving Tribute To Joe Biden At 2008 Democratic National Convention

Beau Biden, the son of Vice President Joe Biden, died Saturday of brain cancer at the age of 46. During the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado, Beau Biden introduced his father with a moving speech that touched on their family's history with tragedy.

Shortly after Joe Biden's 1972 victory in the Senate race for Delaware, his first wife, Neilia, and his 1-year-old daughter, Naomi, were killed in a car accident that left Beau and another son, Hunter, in the hospital.

Beau Biden described how his father briefly entertained the idea of not taking the oath of office: "He said, 'Delaware can get another senator, but my boys can't get another father.'"

In office, Beau Biden described the future vice president as a committed and loyal father who traveled back home from Washington to be with his family.

"As a single parent, he decided to be there to put us to bed, to be there when we woke up from a bad dream, to make us breakfast."
