Woman Dead After Gun Bought To Prepare For Ferguson Decision Discharges: Report

A Missouri woman accidentally shot herself dead with a gun she purchased to prepare for possible unrest in Ferguson, her boyfriend told police.

Becca Campbell, 26, was discovered at the scene of a car accident with a gunshot wound to the head at around 11:45 p.m. on Friday night, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Campbell was a passenger in a car driven by her boyfriend, according to CNN. The 33-year-old man, whose name has not been released, told authorities that while they were driving, Campbell whipped out a gun and jokingly said they were ready for Ferguson.

The boyfriend told investigators the couple had purchased the gun because they feared violence surrounding a grand jury decision on the shooting of Michael Brown.

He said when he ducked to avoid the gun, he rear-ended another car, creating an impact that caused the gun to fire and hit Campbell in the head.

Police are working to determine if the boyfriend’s version of events is accurate.

A grand jury, tasked with determining whether to bring charges against Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson in the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown, is expected to resume deliberations Monday.
