It doesn’t seem like Frida fever will ever quite subside. This time it’s Spanish-born Mexican pop star Belinda who’s caught it just in time for her new “En La Obscuridad” (In The Darkness) music video.

Earlier this month, the 23-year-old star wrapped up filming for her upcoming video for the new single. The video, co-directed by Belinda and Daniel Shain, was shot in several locations around Mexico City, including the National Museum of Art (MUNAL), and incorporates the singer’s idea of “mexican chic.”

“I think Mexico is a country with a very rich culture that has unique textures and colors,” Belinda wrote to The Huffington Post in an e-mail. “And I’ve always wanted to show this in a music video, but I hadn’t had the chance.”

And the influence of the Mexican artist and fashion icon Frida Kahlo is quite clear. In the video Belinda can be seen posing on a vibrant turquoise blue and fuschia pink set wearing a coordinating sexy ensemble and headpiece that’s reminiscent of Kahlo’s life-long home known as “La Casa Azul” (The Blue House) and her distinctive clothing style.

“I’ve always admired Frida Kahlo, she’s one of Mexico’s most emblematic figures and she was a woman who never gave up and that had a unique style. She was a huge inspiration,” the pop star wrote. “The hair accessories, the colors like “rosa mexicano,” and the hearts along the house’s walls [were used to channel Frida]. The video overall reminds me of a quote from her, “Feet, what do I want them for if I have wings to fly.”

And from the look of these pictures, it seems Belinda herself will be spending some time off the ground. “En La Obscuridad” was released digitally in the U.S. on Tuesday and is the Mexican singer’s latest single off her fourth studio album, Catarsis, scheduled to hit stores on Feb. 26. The music video is expected to premiere on VEVO.com in the coming weeks.
