If you’re wondering how to handle a painful breakup, allow Bella Hadid to show you how it’s done.

Hadid sat down with Teen Vogue to chat about her biggest heartbreaks: the loss of her childhood horse and her recent split from The Weeknd. The 20-year-old model was surprisingly candid about the end of her year-and-a-half long relationship.

“It was my first breakup ... and so public,” Hadid told the magazine. “As an outsider, you might think I handled it so well, but it’s always in your heart, and you always feel it very heavily.”

“It’ll be hard for a while,” Hadid added. “Love hurts, but you have to pull through.”

Hadid’s struggle is compounded by the fact that her former flame has seemingly moved on. The Weeknd was photographed kissing Selena Gomez last month, and the pair recently jetted off to Italy for a romantic vacation. While Hadid did unfollow Gomez on Instagram after the kissing photos surfaced, she’s taking the high road when it comes to her ex.

“I’ll always respect him, and I’ll always love him,” Hadid said. “Sometimes you want to be sad about it or handle it differently, but at the end of the day, you never want to burn a bridge that you’ve fought so hard to build.”

We have to applaud Hadid for being the model of maturity in a difficult situation. Bravo, Bella.
