The LGBT Activist's Question That Left Ben Carson Speechless

Talk about awkward.

Republican presidential hopeful Ben Carson was left speechless after an activist took him to task over his controversial stance on the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.

The awkward incident took place at a Jan. 4 town hall meeting in New York, The Washington Post reported. Carson was greeting supporters and posing for photographs at Staten Island's Hilton Garden Hotel Inn when the activist, who was wearing a T-shirt of a local LGBT community center, asked him, "Do you think I chose to be gay?"

As the below video footage of the incident captured by ABC News shows, Carson repeated the question, before responding, "That's a long conversation."

The activist coyly smiled before firing back, "I think you're full of sh*t!"

Carson, whose poll numbers have slipped in recent weeks, has made no secret of his opposition to LGBT rights. In a March 2015 interview with CNN, he argued that prisons prove that people can choose to be gay.

"Because a lot of people who go into prison go into prison straight -- and when they come out, they're gay," Carson said. "So, did something happen while they were in there? Ask yourself that question."

While Carson later apologized for that remark, he sparked the ire of the LGBT community once again in November when he said that transgender people should have separate bathrooms because they "make everybody else uncomfortable."
