Home Depot Co-Founder: If Romney Wins, 'Smiles' Will Turn Into Jobs

Bernie Marcus, co-founder of home improvement retailer Home Depot, says electing Romney would make business executives so happy that they'd essentially have no choice but to save the struggling U.S. job market.

"If Romney is elected tonight, you can see there'll be smiles all over the business community, and those smiles will work into business, into jobs for America," Marcus said Tuesday on Fox Business Network. "Over the next three, four, five months, if Romney is elected, you're going to see that job picture change dramatically because the attitude of people is going to change dramatically."

Romney has said his election alone would increase U.S. business confidence, subsequently invigorating the U.S. job market. But if nothing changed, the U.S. economy would be projected to create 12 million jobs over the next four years, according to both Moody's Analytics and Macroeconomic Advisers -- the same number of jobs that Romney has promised to create during his first term if elected.

Marcus added that reelecting President Barack Obama would leave businesspeople confused by regulations, and the confusion would not be good for the economy.

"I think about what happens if Obama is reelected. Starting tomorrow, every businessman in America is going to wake up and say, 'Now what do I do?'" Marcus said. "Their lives are going to be a very difficult life."

The job market has shown signs of improvement over the past year of Obama's term. In October, the unemployment rate was 7.9 percent, down from 8.9 percent during the same period last year, according to the Labor Department.
