Jerry From Ben & Jerry's Wants To Scoop Ice Cream For Bernie Sanders

Jerry Greenfield, one half of the duo that created Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, hopes to personally scoop ice cream for Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), when Sanders officially launches his presidential campaign next week.

“I personally am a huge supporter of Bernie, and if I have the opportunity, I would like to scoop Ben & Jerry’s ice cream at Bernie’s kickoff event,” he said.

Greenfield, a longtime Vermont resident, told Gannett reporter Nicole Gaudiano on Wednesday that Sanders can count on his support.

“I love Bernie’s take on the issues about inequality in this country, about the incredible discrepancy between wealth and poor, and that we’re just not taking care of people,” Greenfield said.

Sanders will officially launch his presidential campaign next Tuesday in Burlington, Vermont. The event will feature free scoops of Ben & Jerry’s. Burlington is both the birthplace of Ben & Jerry’s and the city where Sanders began his political career; he served as mayor from 1981 to 1989, before going on to represent Vermont in the U.S. House and Senate.

No word on whether or not the company might consider crafting a custom flavor in honor of Sanders. Ben & Jerry’s has been known to create original flavors inspired by celebrities, including Stephen Colbert’s AmeriCone Dream and Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Dough. Ben & Jerry's did not immediately return a request for comment.
