Here's What Bernie Sanders Should Ask For At The Convention

Ice cream is a good starting point.

Sooner or later, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is going to clinch the Democratic nomination outright. At that point, it’ll be time for another round of hard choices, because in order to move forward, she’ll have to knit the fractious Democratic coalition back together. And she’ll have to close the deal with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) before the July convention in Philadelphia. What to do, what to do? Besides maybe electing Debbie Wasserman-Schultz's primary opponent, Tim Canova. (Which wouldn't be a bad idea, to be honest.)

It starts by acknowledging that Sanders has helpfully revealed a lot about the concerns of the younger revelers in the Democratic ranks. As a candidate who's often depicted as being too rooted in the 1990s, Clinton has a lot to gain from the insights of this new generation of voters whom Sanders has encouraged to become involved in politics. It’s a big prize, but it won’t -- and shouldn’t -- be freely given. So it’s time for some concessions.

Here at First To Last, we’ve written out a menu of friendly gestures, ranging from fun and good cheer to serious offers that could define Clinton’s campaign and point the way toward a shared future between both candidates’ camps. The best thing about all these suggestions is that America wins in every instance. So much winning. By Jove, maybe everyone will be bored of winning, who knows.
