Golden Globe nominations have been announced, with a particularly strong field occupying the Best Actor, Drama category. Daniel Day Lewis ("Lincoln"), John Hawkes ("The Sessions") and Denzel Washington ("Flight") are among those given the nod.

Joaquin Phoenix ("The Master") and Richard Gere ("Arbitrage") also received nominations.

George Clooney took home this award in 2012, honored for his work in "The Descendants."

The 2013 Golden Globes will take place on Sunday, Jan. 13. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are co-hosting the broadcast. The awards are put on by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), a historically quirky bunch. The Globes are generally seen as an indicator of Oscar standings, but that's a rule with more perforations than Swiss cheese.

Information on the Best Actor nominees on the television side of the Golden Globes is available at HuffPost TV.
