'Best Man Holiday' Sequel Will Probably Happen Before 2027

Get excited, "Best Man" fans: a third film may be in the works.

Fourteen years after the release of the original 1999 "Best Man" movie, a sequel, "Best Man Holiday," hit theaters on Friday. The romantic comedy debuted with strong ticket sales, bringing in $30 million during its opening weekend. The success of the second film may allow for a third installment, according to the film's star, Morris Chestnut.

Chestnut was recently interviewed about "Best Man" by Necole Bitchie and hinted at another sequel. When asked what he saw ahead for his character Lance, Chestnut said, "I actually already know a little bit. I talked to the director and writer Malcolm Lee."

As to whether he was confirming a third movie, Chestnut continued, "The people still have to speak. When the people come and they show the movie is successful then there will be a third. [Lee] already is breaking out some story lines for my character in the third movie. So I kinda already know a little bit what happens."

After Chestnut's comments, Deadline.com reported that a sequel to "Best Man Holiday" was actively in development at Universal, though no script had been written just yet. If everything goes according to plan, "Best Man 3" would arrive in theaters sometime before 2027.
