Best Original Screenplay Oscar: Quentin Wins At 2013 Academy Awards

Best Original Screenplay Winner

The 85th Annual Academy Awards landed in Los Angeles on Sunday night, with "Django Unchained" winning Best Original Screenplay.

Quentin Tarantino penned the script for and directed the movie, which beat out "Zero Dark Thirty," "Amour," "Moonrise Kingdom" and "Flight."

Tarantino's spaghetti-western stars Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio, Christoph Waltz and Samuel L. Jackson and tells the tale of a slave looking for his wife.

"Zero Dark Thirty" was an early favorite for this category. The film's depictions of torture, and the role it played in the hunt for Osama bin Laden, have been a source of near-constant contention since its release. A number of senators and other government officials have come out for or against the movie. Screenwriter Mark Boal and director Kathryn Bigelow at once defend the film's accuracy while also arguing that "depiction is not endorsement."

Last year, "Midnight In Paris" beat "The Artist," "Bridesmaids," "Margin Call" and "A Separation" to take home the Oscar in this category.

Seth MacFarlane hosted the broadcast, which included a tribute to James Bond, a "Les Miserables" performance, Ted, a "Chicago" reunion and live singing from the likes of Adele and Barbra Streisand.
