Residents In These States Love Where They Live

Residents of Montana and Alaska are the most likely to say that their states are among the best states to live in, according to a new Gallup report.

Specifically, 77 percent of residents in both Montana and Alaska said their state is the "best or one of the best possible states to live."

Overall, Gallup researchers found that residents in the West and Midwest were more likely to be positive about their states. Texas residents were most likely to say that their state is the single best place to live, followed by Alaska and Hawaii residents. Meanwhile, Illinois residents were the most likely to say that their state is the worst state to live in -- 25 percent of them said this -- followed by Rhode Island and Connecticut residents.

The Gallup ranking is based on phone interviews conducted with 600 or more residents from all 50 states, conducted between June and December of last year.
