Glassdoor has released their fourth annual Employees' Choice Awards, which ranks the 50 best companies to work for, based on employee surveys. Glassdoor is a job-finding and ranking community that allows employees to anonymously post unedited opinions about the places they work.
Despite Facebook being ousted from the number-one spot by management consulting firm Bain & Company, tech firms made a strong showing on this year's list. One popular search engine rocketed from #30 to #5, and three of the nine companies which received "Very Satisfied" rankings from their employees were in the technology field.
As part of the study, researchers at Glassdoor also looked at how employees at each company felt about their CEOs. Tech execs in particular rated highly, with the chiefs at National Instruments and NetApps both receiving 100 percent satisfaction ratings. The approval rating of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg fell from 97 percent in 2010 to 89 percent this year.
Maybe someone should share these results with the 160,000 business and engineering students recently surveyed by Universum to see where they most wanted to work when they graduated. Although Universum's study included participants from all over the world, whereas Glassdoor's was restricted to the U.S., it's interesting to note that only two companies made the top seven on both surveys: Apple and Google. Tech behemoths Microsoft and IBM, which were the second and third most desirable places in the Universum study, weren't even in the top 50 of Glassdoor's employee satisfaction survey.
