As a female, it’s refreshing when a well-known empowered woman speaks up and inspires others. Beth Behrs is doing just that in her book The Total ME-Tox. Behrs is best known for her role as Caroline on the CBS hit show 2 Broke Girls. The Total ME-Tox is a lighthearted, down-to-earth holistic wellness guide to giving up the junk food lifestyle and achieving physical and emotional health. “I wanted to write a book that empowered women to be authentic and the best version of themselves, without striving for perfection. Thus bringing them back to what truly matters—loving yourself, serving others, and enjoying the journey,” said Behrs. “I also wanted it to be a humorous, fun read, with tips that were not only doable, but also affordable.”

Behrs is surprisingly very candid about her terrible eating habits and how those bad choices affected her day-to-day well-being. “I was a two doughnut a day gal, when I started 2 Broke Girls, and the only vegetable I liked were green beans from the can. I had a terrible rash covering my whole body, that was crashing my immune system due to stress and poor eating habits,” said Behrs. “That’s truly what prompted my change and exploration in all things health. Meditation has been the number one life-changing thing for me. Once I started to slow down and take time for myself—which was 20 minutes twice a day, I had more energy to workout, was disciplined to say no to sugar, and craving healthier foods.”

In The Total ME-Tox, Behrs provides simple tips to curbing poor food choices and how any individual can take baby steps towards a healthy lifestyle. Moreover, Behr’s book also identifies that slowing down and incorporating “me” time is an essential component of being healthy. For women struggling with body issues and other self-esteem issues, Behrs recommends slowing down and taking time for yourself. “Self-care plus self-love will ultimately lead to success—including success with your health and fitness goals. Find things you love and do them. Think about being an active part of your community.”

For women struggling with the idea of changing their lifestyle, approaching the change with small takeaways may be ideal—Behr believes that easy life changes can be the ideal starting point for anyone. The Total ME-Tox is exactly that—a simplistic guide towards making a life decision that will provide a wealth of benefits. “It’s all about moderation and enjoying what you do. If you hate running, don’t run. Explore what makes you happy and what inspires you,” said Behrs. “If you hate the gym, dance around your living room for 30 minutes a day to your favorite playlist. Hike with your dog in nature. Learning a healthy lifestyle can and should be joyful and doable. I provide many ideas and inspiration for ways to get to know yourself better and discover what works best for you.”

If you’re looking to change your lifestyle and become the best version of yourself, then this book is absolutely for you. Behrs’ realistic methodology and renewed sense of being is contagious—and worthwhile.
