I am having a conversation with the novelist Frederic Tuten in Los Angeles on the day of his reading and conversation at the Getty with Steve Martin and Andrew Perchuk, the Deputy Director of the Getty. The themes of love and art are central to his beautiful new book of interrelated short stories, Self Portraits: Fictions, which makes me think he might have some thoughts about these issues that everyone wonders about at some time or other.
