'Beverly Hills Cop 4' Now In Development With Eddie Murphy Following Attempted TV Reboot

Eddie Murphy Resurrects Classic Character

Cue up Harold Faltermeyer: According to Deadline.com, Paramount has put plans in motion to resurrect the "Beverly Hills Cop" franchise following a failed television pilot. Eddie Murphy would once again star as Axel Foley, with "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol" screenwriters Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec handling the screenplay.

Murphy was set to reprise the Foley role in a new CBS drama this fall. The pilot, produced by Shawn Ryan ("The Shield") and Murphy, was one of the more highly anticipated projects put together last development season, but CBS decided against picking the show up for series. Sony Pictures Television and Paramount shopped the production to other networks, but to no avail. It was Ryan himself who first reported news of what should become "Beverly Hills Cop 4" in a tweet on July 19.

The planned television reboot focused on Foley's son (played by Brandon T. Jackson). No word yet on whether that plot will be reused for the feature film version. Here's a photo of what Jackson and Murphy looked like together, just in case it's not:
