Candy Spelling, widow of television mogul Aaron Spelling, and mother to Tori Spelling, got the chance to take viewers behind the scenes for the construction of her $35 million penthouse in her new HGTV series, "Beyond Spelling Manor."
Candy sold the infamous 8-acre Spelling estate back in 2011 for $85 million, and has moved up to an 18,000 square foot penthouse overlooking downton Los Angeles. It features the largest penthouse conservatory in the Western United States. But that wasn't enough for Candy. She had roses specially engineered to fill the room. This is no easy -- or cheap -- task. Engineering a new type of rose takes 10 years, and costs as much as $10,000.
Candy’s new digs -- an 18,000 square-foot penthouse overlooking downtown Los Angeles -- features the largest penthouse conservatory in the Western United States. “If Aaron were here today, he would say, ‘But of course you’re having a rose!’" Candy said. "That was always our thing, from the day I met him. It’s like bringing Aaron right into the present day. Making him part of all of this.”
She explained that the rose conservatory was a way to bring the feel of her expansive garden at her old home up into the sky with her at her new home.
But even this lavish home isn't enough for Candy. She recently purchased a $7.5 million apartment in Beyonce's building in New York. According to Candy, though -- who uses the apartment when she's producing Broadway shows -- this "crash pad" is "teeny."
