Howard did what he could to try and win the support of the house, but an overwhelming consensus sent him packing on "Big Brother." As one of the African-American contestants who was targeted by much of the racism in the house, Julie Chen asked him what that experience was like once he was outside the house.
“How hard was it for you to hold your tongue?” she asked him.
“Probably the hardest thing in the world," he said. Howard actually said he feared letting his temper out, and he was proud that he never did. "I just chose to take the high road, you know? Let them have that. I’m not going to get down to their level. Just accept it as it is and pray about it. There it is.”
As John Kubicek of Buddy TV pointed out, he had support from the live audience as well. Someone shouted, "Amen!" when Howard said he wouldn't stoop to the level of those being racist in the house.
Critics were supportive of Howard's approach to handling the difficult situation. Bustle's Molly Fitzpatrick gave him props for being a "nice guy 'til the end," as well as for exiting the show gracefully. Todd Betzold, writing for Reality Rewind, agreed, saying that he was sad to see such a "classy guy" leave the show.
