Bill Carter, Former NYT Television Reporter, Joins CNN As Contributor

Bill Carter, a veteran reporter who covered the television industry at The New York Times for more than 25 years, has joined CNN as a contributor, the network announced Friday.

Carter will bring "reporting, analysis and commentary on the top media stories across CNN's television and digital platforms," CNN said in a statement.

Carter took a voluntary buyout at the Times in December, during a period of buyouts and layoffs across the paper. Carter told The Huffington Post at the time that his decision to leave was "really wrenching and agonizing."

Carter began his career at the Times in 1989 as a media reporter. Prior to that, he worked for 14 years at the Baltimore Sun as a television critic. Carter is also the bestselling author of 1994's The Late Shift, a book about the rivalry between David Letterman and Jay Leno. He has already appeared several times on CNN.
