Beth Ferrier

Beth Ferrier is one of 12 Jane Does from Andrea Constand 2005 civil lawsuit against the now infamous Bill Cosby, Cosby was arrested for allegedly drugging and sexually assaulting Constand more than a decade ago in late December 2015.

Beth Ferrier is just one of the now more than 60 women, who have come forward and , have accused the TV personality of drugging and/or raping them. Bill Cosby to this day has maintained his innocence and denied all claims that have been made against him.

Beth Ferrier an activist who resides in Denver Colorado has been fighting to get Governor Jerry Brown to sign a bill that would abolish the statute of limitations on reporting sexual assault. Earlier this June Ferrier was successful in getting Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper to extend the SOL on an identical bill that is currently resting on Governor Jerry Brown’s desk. At this time there are only thirteen days left for Brown to sign off on the paperwork, however no word yet from Brown even though Ferrier and others have repeatedly attempted to contact him Ferrier tells the Huffington post

Sexual assault violates survivor rights and often takes years for victims to report due to fear, stigma, and victim blaming. The EndRapeSol website says “Many states have already abolished their statute of limitations for rape, including Alabama, Arizona, Delaware, Idaho, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming. California, the most progressive state in the Union, should already be on this list.”

With cases like Brock Turner and headlines about sexual assault happening what seems like every five minutes one would assume that this issue would be high on the list of things to do for Governor Jerry Brown, especially given the fact that the Brock Turner case happened in the state of California.

There’s no nice in politics. Compassion however is something that needs to be added to the mix.
