Bill De Blasio Is Waiting On Hillary Clinton To Speak Out On Trade

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) said he's waiting on former Secretary of State and Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton to come out against President Barack Obama's trade deal.

In a conference call with reporters Thursday, de Blasio said he wants Clinton to make "a very clear statement that this trade deal should be opposed and should be stopped."

“Democrats all over the country are looking to her for leadership," de Blasio said, according to the New York Times.

De Blasio said he will not attend Clinton's official campaign launch, which will take place at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park in New York City on Saturday. He has so far hesitated to endorse Clinton, saying in April he wanted to hear more from her on income inequality.

The mayor praised Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who is also running in the Democratic presidential primary, for his remarks on the issue.

"I think Bernie Sanders is a great senator, he is a great voice for a fair society and a fair economy," de Blasio said.
