Bill Whitaker Named '60 Minutes' Correspondent

CBS News Correspondent Joins '60 Minutes'

CBS News named Bill Whitaker a "60 Minutes" correspondent on Thursday.

Jeff Fager, CBS News chairman and "60 Minutes" executive producer, praised Whitaker in a statement. “Bill is a natural fit at '60 Minutes' and it’s exciting that he has agreed to join us,” Fager said.

NPR TV critic Eric Deggans noted that the appointment makes Whitaker the show's sole black correspondent.

Whitaker joined CBS News in 1984, and reports for "CBS Evening News" and the network's other platforms. He has been based in Los Angeles and will move to New York to start on "60 Minutes" this fall, the network said.

Others at CBS News tweeted their congratulations Thursday.
