Billy Bob Thornton: Angelina Jolie And I Are 'Great Friends'

WATCH: Billy Bob Thornton Opens Up About Ex-Wife Angelina Jolie

Billy Bob Thornton stopped by "Anderson" on Monday and opened up about ex-wife Angelina Jolie, to whom he was married from 2000 to 2003.

"We're friends. We've always been friends," said Thornton, whose new memoir, "The Billy Bob Tapes: A Cave Full of Ghosts," includes a foreward written by Jolie. "See, in the press, ladies and gentleman, if you get a divorce, everyone assumes that it was nasty, and it's just not always."

"It's not that I haven't had a couple of nasty ones, you know, but this was not one of them," joked the actor, who has been married five times. "Angie and I are great friends, we always have been, and we talk on a pretty regular basis."

In an interview with ABC's "Nightline" last week, the Oscar-winning actor admitted that he "blew it" with Jolie -- who's currently engaged to Brad Pitt -- because he didn't think he was "good enough for her."

Thornton and Jolie met on the set of 1999's “Pushing Tin" and wed in April 2000. In May 2003, the couple split after just three years of marriage.

Since 2003, Thornton has been in a relationship with make-up artist Connie Angland, with whom he had a daughter.
