Billy Corgan, Smashing Pumpkins Front Man, Starts Pro Wrestling Company

WATCH: Billy Corgan Starts Pro Wrestling Company

While in Chicago for am upcoming Smashing Pumpkins concert, front man Billy Corgan has been making the morning news show rounds to spread the word about his latest side hustle: A professional wrestling company.

In an interview on Fox Chicago's "Good Day Live" Thursday, Corgan discussed Resistance Pro, the wrestling promotion he started.

"I've been involved sort of behind the scenes with pro wrestling for about a decade and made a lot of friends in the business," Corgan explained. "It's a very insular business and it's a long story, but I essentially got involved with some brothers who had a wrestling promotion. We decided to form our own promotion and we're going to try to bring back to Chicago sort of the glory days."

"We kind of want to go back to a more old school kind of feel," he added.

The company's premiere event, titled "Black Friday," will be held Nov. 25 at Chicago's Excalibur club at 632 N. Dearborn. He also hopes to book an event at Chicago's Aragon Ballroom, a venue with a 4,500-person capacity.

In a separate interview on the WGN Morning Show, Corgan said he wouldn't be getting inside the wrestling ring. Instead, he will be orchestrating the "story lines" of the wrestling events as Resistance Pro's creative director.

In both interviews, Corgan also addressed his ongoing effort to raise awareness about concussions and offered his thoughts on the Chicago Cubs and Theo Epstein.

In August, Paste reported that Corgan tweeted a link to the wrestling company's mission statement. He stated that he wanted the company "to embrace what’s great about the traditional values in the wrestling business, that can at the end of the day provide everyone involved with the a great opportunity for success, while not being shy about being at the forefront of where professional wrestling is headed into the 21st century."

The Smashing Pumpkins, of which Corgan is the only remaining original member, are currently putting the finishing touches on a new album -- titled "Oceania" -- the band's first release in four years. The album is expected to come out later this year.
