'Billy Elliot' Wins Big at Tony's: MediaBytes with Shelly Palmer June 8, 2009

"Billy Elliot The Musical" dominated the Tony's last night, taking home 10 Tony Awards. "God of Carnage" picked up the most awards for a straight play and Liza Minelli won 'best special theatrical event' edging out Will Ferrell and the Chinese Monks with Swords.

The Chinese Government wants all PCs sold in the country to be loaded with software that blocks certain websites. The Wall Street Journal says PC makers may be able to ship a CD with the Censorship software instead of pre-installing it, but that won't change the government regulation which takes effect July 1st.

In order to prevent scalping, Ticketmaster is set to use a paperless ticket system for the 45 venue Miley Cyrus tour. As you can imagine, scalpers and resale sites are extremely unhappy. Rather than provide a physical or self-printed ticket, attendees will simply use their credit card at the venue as their proof of purchase.

This coming Friday will mark the transition from analog to digital television. When Congress and President Obama effectively delayed the transition, it was estimated that nearly 6 million households would lose television access. While an estimated 3 million households will still be effected, President Obama noted that "there will not be another delay."

Disney Pixar's "Up" held on to the number one seat at the box office this weekend. The animated film took in $44.2 million, besting Warner Bros. comedy "The Hangover," which earned $43.3 million. "Up" has grossed $137.3 million in its first ten days in theaters.
