"Birds Of A Feather Shop Together" And More Fashionable Fables

PHOTOS: Aesop's Fables Get Fashionable

"Greta never worked a day in her life. She had a trust fund set up for her by her grandfather." That is the opening to the first story in "Birds of a Feather Shop Together" which introduces Greta, a wealthy fashionista who loves couture and has never worked a day in her life. She runs into her old school friend, Anne, who is busy running to meetings, "this girl has to work, you know, the mortgage is due, credit card payments." While Greta goes to do some shopping and get a manicure, Anne heads back to work, "I actually want to retire one day," she says to Greta who retorts, "Retire today, darling."

Flash forward 40 years, Greta is in shopping at Salvation Army and counting food stamps while Anne is eating lobster at one of Miami's finest restaurants. The moral of this story: "It is best to prepare for the days of necessity." Does this sound familiar? It should. The short tale, written by Sandra Bark was based on Aesop's fable, "The Ant and the Grasshopper." Along with illustrations by Christian Dior beauty ambassador Bil Donovan, Bark takes on other classic fables like "The Boasting Traveler," "The Raven and the Swan" and "The Vixen and The Lioness," all with a stylish twist.

"Birds of a Feather Shop Together: Aesop's Fables for the Fashionable Set" is for sale for $19.99 on Amazon.com. Take a peek in our gallery below to see Bil Donovan's illustrations and a preview of the book.
