Bizarre Avocado Assault Breaks Store Clerk's Jaw

A clerk at a store near Yankee Stadium suffered a broken jaw and facial fractures when an angry customer threw avocados at him, CBS New York reported Tuesday.

The May 29 assault, caught on camera, shows the customer repeatedly hurling the avocados at the employee and a coworker. He then pelts him with bananas.

The clerk was hospitalized, the CBS affiliate noted.

Meanwhile, the suspect and an accomplice, who also threw avocados and trashed the place, remain at large, the New York City Police Department told HuffPost on Wednesday.

Police said the two suspects became irate during an argument over a food order, the New York Post reported.

The owner of Stadium Gourmet Deli, Hany Girgis, told CBS the recently hired worker did not speak English and one suspect got upset after the cashier offered to translate.
