5 Netflix Releases With Black Stars To Look Forward To In September

Fall is approaching and the temperature is dropping. That means more time indoors binge-watching Netflix!

Lucky for all of us, September is bringing more fabulous releases to the streaming platform. And we’re extra ecstatic for the shows and films featuring some of our favorite black stars.

From Spike Lee’s “She’s Gotta Have It” to the eye-opening documentary “Strong Island,” here are five releases to look forward to in September.

"Mr. Dynamite: The Rise of James Brown"
This documentary chronicles James Brown's legendary career and the impact he had on music. The film features exclusive interviews with celebs and those who were close to the Godfather of Soul and exclusive concert footage and photographs.

"Strong Island"
From filmmaker Yance Ford, "Strong Island" takes a look into the 1992 murder of William Ford by a white man and brings to light the deeply rooted racism within the justice system that led to Ford's killer walking free.

Coming Sept. 15
"She's Gotta Have It"
If you've never seen Spike Lee's classic breakthrough film, now is your chance before the series debuts on Netflix later this year. Nola Darling juggles her rotation of three very different men, Greer Childs, Jamie Overstreet and Mars Blackmon.
