This morning on CNN's Late Edition, Wolf Blitzer hosted a segment on the Foley page scandal with guests Representative Patrick McHenry (R-NC) and Representative Charles Rangel (D-NY). McHenry was slinging accusations that Democrats had knowledge of Foley's inappropriate emails to pages, and held the information until before midterm elections, even though there is no evidence of such a maneuver and ABC News, after breaking the story, said that their sources were Republican.
Blitzer cornered McHenry during the segment.
Transcript:
Blitzer: Well you don't have any evidence though, right?
Rep. McHenry: Well look at the fact points...four weeks out from a national election...
Blitzer: Yes or no: do you have any evidence? Do you have any evidence Congressman?
Rep. McHenry: Do you have any evidence that says they weren't involved?
Blitzer: I'm just asking if you're just throwing out an accusation or if you have any hard evidence.
Rep. McHenry: No, it's a question Wolf. The question remains, were they involved? And if they were not involved they need to say clearly, and it's a question, it's not an accusation.
Blitzer: Well, they are denying that they had anything to do with this. But let me bring Charlie Rangel in because he's a key Democrat, and I'll ask him...[faces Rep. Rangel]...Did you or any of your fellow Democrats, based on what you know, disclose to ABC News this information about Congressman Foley.
Rep. Rangel: I've never heard that before, except from Patrick [Rep. McHenry]...I think it's ridiculous, but if I was in a bind as the Republicans are now, I guess I would be reaching for straws, but it's sad"...
