San Diego Mayor Bob Filner (D) has faced a great deal of scrutiny amid recent allegations that he sexually harassed several female staffers.
In a Monday interview with local television station KUSI, Filner combatted the allegations, saying his actions as a "demonstrable" and "outgoing" individual have been taken "in an offensive manner." The mayor called himself "a hugger, of both men and women."
Filner confirmed that he has no intention of resigning, just that he needs to "have a greater sense of awareness" to prevent future misunderstandings.

Earlier this week, Filner issued a statement explaining why he is refusing to step down.
"I’m not going to resign, and here’s why," Filner said in the statement. "As your elected mayor, I fully expect to be accountable to the citizens of San Diego for all of my actions."
He continued, "But as a citizen of this country, I also expect -- and am entitled to -- due process, and the opportunity to respond in a fair and impartial venue to specific allegations. I do not believe I am guilty of sexual harassment, and I believe a full presentation of the facts will vindicate me."
