True, the comparatively little Florida town of Boca Raton is often overshadowed by bigger cities of Fort Lauderdale, Miami and West Palm Beach. But it’s got all the makings for a beautiful weekend getaway—especially for those seeking respite from colder temperatures. Whether you’re interested in a romantic weekend away, an adventure or simply some time to unwind, you’ll be delighted by the finds here in this seemingly sleepy beachside town.

The Place to Stay

Check in to the Waterstone Resort & Marina. Tucked away among seaside condos and mansions (you will no doubt dream about living in as you’re driving by), the Curio by Hilton property opened just over three years ago after a property remodel. The contemporary 139-room hotel sits aside Lake Boca Raton where it streams into the Atlantic, with many of the resort’s rooms providing balconies with waterviews of the lake and ocean. It’s the only local hotel on the water open to the public in the area, so it’s a popular spot to be during boating season and a year-round wedding destination favorite.

All You Can Eat

Even more surprisingly is the food selection in Boca. The range of cuisine here suggests a cultural melting pot. At Waterstone, guests can enjoy Boca Landing, the hotel’s fine dining restaurant open for both a European-style breakfast and exquisite dinner. Overlooking Lake Boca and the Intracoastal Waterway, the restaurant offers up a seasonal menu of fresh, local seafood, grilled steaks, handcrafted cocktails and a solid wine list of vinos from around the globe. The hotel’s outdoor waterside Rum Bar & Grill serves up Latin-inspired food, hors d’oeuvres and cocktails, so there’s really no reason to leave the hotel for a fulfilling night out. For those who do, the restaurants in the area range from asian delight Kapow Noodle Bar, to fresh seafood at Truluck’s and delicious Italian at Villagio.

Shop, Surf & Sun

Venture downtown Boca to Mizner Park for a full day of activites. Waterstone offers a free shuttle that travels within three miles of the hotel, which guests can text when they are ready to be picked up. It’s easy and convenient to get around without having to rely on a car. From luxury shops and familiar favorites to iPic Movie Theater and restaurants galore, this outdoor shopping destination has a little bit of everything.

Not to forget you’re staying by the water, Waterstone makes sure guests get the chance to get wet. The hotel welcomes guests out for Catamaran sunset cruise, raft-up parties, fishing and snorkeling adventures. Boca’s beautiful sandy beaches are a short bike ride away (free beach bike rentals at the hotel are included in your stay). Waverunners, kayaks, standup paddle boards and even boat rentals are options depending on how much (or how little) energy you want to exert on a sunny afternoon. Or simply take it easy, relax in a poolside cabana and catch some rays.

After all, it’s not called the Sunshine State for nothing.
