Decomposing Body Found In New Haven Apartment Weeks After Yale Students Complain Of Smell

Decomposing Body Discovered In Student Apartment Building

Connecticut police recently found a decomposing corpse in an apartment building occupied by Yale University students. But what makes the discovery so shocking is that students complained of an odd smell for weeks before the body was found in the New Haven apartment.

According to the Yale Daily News, student-residents of 162 Park Street noticed a strong odor emanating from the first-floor apartment in September and contacted building manager Pike International multiple times about the smell. It wasn't until the New Haven Police Department investigated on Oct. 28 that the body of an elderly man was discovered.

WTNH News 8 identified the deceased as Edmund Valuckas. Both the TV station and the Yale Daily News reported that he died of natural causes.

It's not clear how long the man -- believed to be the resident of the first-floor apartment -- was dead before his body was recovered. Officer David Hartman, the police department's media liaison, told The Huffington Post that the death has not prompted a police investigation.
