Bernie Fine Scandal: Jim Boeheim, Syracuse Basketball Coach, Issues Statement Of Support

Jim Boeheim Supports Accused Assistant Coach

On Thursday evening, ESPN reported on an active investigation into accusations of child molestation against assistant Syracuse basketball coach Bernie Fine. Two alleged victims spoke with ESPN's 'Outside The Lines,' providing a graphic account of the alleged molestation.

Shortly after the ESPN report, Syracuse University announced that Fine has been placed on administrative leave. Despite the university's quick action and the nascent police investigation, the head coach of the Syracuse basketball team issued a statement of support for his longtime assistant:

"This matter was fully investigated by the university in 2005 and it was determined that the allegations were unfounded. I have known Bernie Fine for more than 40 years. I have never seen or witnessed anything to suggest that he would been involved in any of the activities alleged. Had I seen or suspected anything, I would have taken action. Bernie has my full support."

In a telephone interview with The Associate Press, Boeheim added, "This kid came forward and there was no one to corroborate his story. Not one. Not one. ... This just is not true."
