Aunt Of 'Breaking Amish' Reality Star Missing

Authorities in Virginia are trying to locate a missing mother of seven, who is related to one of the stars of TLC's hit reality show "Breaking Amish."

According to the Albemarle County Police Department, 56-year-old Bonnie Santiago, of Brands Flat, was last seen at a Carter Mountain home on July 12 at 1 a.m. The home is in a rural area and is surrounded by a large apple orchard.

"Her family reported her missing to us on July 14," Carter Johnson, a spokeswoman for the Albemarle County Police, told The Huffington Post. "No one knows what happened. We don’t know what she was wearing or if she left in a vehicle."

According to Johnson, Santiago was visiting a friend. The Roanoke Times reported that police said the individual is Santiago's boyfriend.

Sabrina Rock, one of the stars of the reality TV show "Breaking Amish," recently posted a message about Santiago's disappearance to her Facebook page. The message reads, in part:

"This is my aunt who has been missing. Please share and repost. Thank you."

Rock did not respond to a request for comment from HuffPost.

Santiago's sister, Barbara Simpson, described the missing woman to WHSV.com as a fun-loving person who comes from a large family. Santiago has seven children of her own and 14 grandchildren, Simpson said.

Simpson also told WHSV it would be out of character for her sister to take off without telling anyone.

"I just can't see her being missing," Simpson said. "That's why it seems so surreal."

According to Johnson, authorities have conducted two searches of the area in and around the home where Santiago was last seen, but nothing of interest was found.

Authorities said it is too soon to say whether they suspect foul play in the case, which is currently labeled a missing person investigation.

"We've dedicated a lot of resources to it and have detectives working on it," Johnson told HuffPost.

Bonnie Santiago is described as 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighs about 175 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information on the disappearance of Santiago is asked to contact the Albemarle County CrimeStoppers at (434) 977-4000.
