Bombing Suspects Implicated In 2011 Triple Murder: Officials

ABC News reports that law enforcement officials have collected "mounting evidence" connecting the Boston bombing suspects to a 2011 triple murder.

As the Atlantic reports, the 2011 killing in question involved Brandon Mess, "a friend and former roommate of Tamerlan Tsarnaev, [who] was murdered along with two other men in Mess's apartment in Waltham, Mass., one town over from Watertown, where Dzhokhar was captured, and two towns over from Cambridge, where the Tsarnaevs most recently lived."

The victims in the unsolved case had their "throats slashed" and "their bodies covered in seven pounds of marijuana," according to The Atlantic.

From ABC:

Now law enforcement officials tell ABC News that some crime scene forensic evidence provided a match to the two Tsarnaev brothers [Tamerlan Tsarnaev and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev]. The officials also said records of cell phones used by the Tsarnaevs appears to put them in the area of the murders on that date.

The law enforcement officials who spoke to ABC on condition of anonymity, said they were waiting on further DNA evidence before bringing an indictment against Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. His brother was killed in a firefight with police.

The Boston Globe reported on the case and the possible ties to the Tsarnaev brothers in April.

"We’re eager to pursue any new leads of information," Stephanie Guyotte, a spokesperson for the Middlesex district attorney’s office, said at the time. "It remains an open and active investigation.”

BuzzFeed previously spoke with former "associates" of Tamarlan Tsarnaev who told the site they now have suspicions about his potential involvement in the 2011 killing.
