Boston Globe Endorses Ed Markey Over Stephen Lynch In Massachusetts Senate Race

Dem Rep Scores Big Senate Endorsement

Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) received a big boost Sunday morning in his bid to fill Secretary of State John Kerry's U.S. Senate seat.

The Boston Globe has made its choice for the Democratic Party nominee, releasing an editorial endorsing Markey over Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-Mass.). The newspaper wrote that "the achievement gap between Markey and Lynch is vast" but Markey has "delivered more for the people of Massachusetts."

Lynch will have an immediate opportunity to prove otherwise, with a debate against Markey scheduled for this Tuesday in Springfield, Mass. The event was postponed due to the Boston Marathon bombings.

Recent polls show Markey appearing to be in good standing with voters. A Western New England University poll released late Saturday night found him holding a 10-point lead over Lynch among 270 likely Democratic voters, 44 to 34 percent. The margin of error was six percent.
