Boy Crop Hairstyles We Love, From Audrey to Mia to Halle (PHOTOS)

Who Wore The Boy Crop Best?

It's so freaking hot outside that we've been seriously considering chopping off our locks. (We just want to keep our strands off our sweaty backs!) And with all the short-haired girls we've recently met, who tell us how freeing it is to submit to the scissors, the boy crop is looking mighty fine these days.

Defined by its exposed hairline and shorter sides, the boy crop hairstyle has evolved in many different ways over the years, according to Sebastian Professional stylist Anthony Cole. "We’ve seen the boy crop go from softer to stronger looks and played up with wet and dry textures," said Cole.

Big-screen actresses such as Audrey Hepburn and Mia Farrow sported the boyish haircut with charm, while British style icons like Twiggy and Lulu sparked international hair trends. Cole adds, "To fast forward, we see contemporary boy crops on Halle Berry, Hilary Swank and Rihanna. Miley Cyrus is redefining the boy crop right now for the young Hollywood set."

These famous faces have played a huge role in the boy crop's transformation, but tools and products have also shaped the hairstyle. "For example, texture shears with different blades have enabled the look to really evolve," said Cole. "Products help us to create different textures and styles with the boy crop -- the possibilities are infinite!"

But Cole reminds us that the boy crop can be a tricky haircut to pull off. His number one piece of advice? Ask your stylist to consider your hair texture and the shape of your face, as that will help determine the outcome of the look.

Linda Evangelista, 1995: The supermodel looks great with long or short hair, but we're partial to this sophisticated short 'do.

Hilary Swank, 1999: Only cheekbones as prominent as Swank's could hold up this wispy short cut.

Emma Watson, 2010: It was the haircut heard around the world: The ever demure Hermoine chopped off her curly-cues. This definitive boy crop turned Watson from a girl into a woman.

Rihanna, 2012: We've never seen style quite like RiRi's and, of course, she rocks a boy crop like no one else can. It's sexy and cute at the same time.

Miley Cyrus, 2012: Cyrus can't stop and won't stop pushing boundaries with both her style and hair. She debuted this cropped cut last year, and ever since, it's been getting shorter and wackier.

Anne Hathaway, 2013: First she dyed her hair blonde and then chopped it all off. Now, she is back to brunette, but Hathaway still works it with this short, wispy cut.
