Last week, HuffPost Gay Voices showcased the publication of a Thought Catalog Books anthology titled BOYS, which chronicles "a collaborative effort among an array of writers that challenges the reader to re-imagine the meaning of being a boy" and "explores lives of gay, queer, and trans men from different parts of the world."
Several contributors, including editor Zach Stafford, appeared on HuffPost Live to discuss their individual and highly personal contributions to BOYS. Stafford opened up about his experiences coming out as gay and bulimic while growing up in the South.
"The story to me is more than sexuality. It's more about gender and my relationship to family and my father as an interracial man -- becoming a man in an interracial family," Stafford said. "Before I even came out as gay, I had to come out as bulimic. Bulimia is seen as something very feminine, as something women deal with... If I came out as bulimic when I was 16 or 17, I thought that automatically made me gay."
