Democratic Nebraska state Sen. Brad Ashford defeated Republican Rep. Lee Terry in the state's 2nd District, according to the Associated Press.
The Omaha World-Herald reported that Terry made a concession speech Wednesday afternoon.
Terry was considered one of the few vulnerable Republican congressional incumbents. Democrats set their sights on his seat after he made damaging comments about keeping his salary during the federal government shutdown in 2013. Though Terry apologized, Democrats have been consistently reminding voters of his remarks on television in the Omaha-based district.
