A 17-year-old was shot multiple times and critically wounded while walking home from Northwestern Senior High School Thursday afternoon.

The student, whom relatives identified as Brandon Allen, was among a group of teenagers walking along NW 10th Avenue near NW 62nd Street when according to police several black males in a vehicle of unknown make and model pulled up alongside them and opened fire.

"The subjects fled the scene immediately after the gunfire," said Miami Police spokesperson Kenia Reyes. "When the air cleared, the victim shot was immediately rendered aid and transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Unit in extremely critical condition."

Reyes said there was no known motive in the shooting, which WSVN reports left Allen with a bullet wound to his neck and his bloody handprints smeared on the exterior wall of an apartment building.

"He's an outstanding child," Allen's stepfather, Robert Lee, told NBCMiami. "Very athletic. I don't know what this came from."
