A family of four has vanished without a trace from Alaska, prompting an investigation by police who say there is no indication as to where they have gone.
Brandon Jividen, 37, and his girlfriend, Rebecca Adams, 22, have been missing for two weeks with Adams' children, Michelle Hundley, 5, and Jaracca Hundley, 3.
According to the Kenai Police Department, the family was last seen at their Kenai apartment on May 27. Kenai is a small city located about 160 miles southwest of Anchorage.
"We are still very hopefully (sic) of having a happy ending," Kenai Police Chief Gus Sandahl said at a Monday news conference. "Our officers have been working diligently to locate the family of four."
Authorities began searching for the family on May 31, after neighbors asked police to conduct a welfare check of their apartment. The responding officers reportedly found the couple's two cars and all their belongings at the residence; however, there was no sign of the family or their dog.
The family was last heard from over Memorial Day weekend, according to Rebecca Adams' sister, Lanell Adams.
Lanell Adams did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Huffington Post on Tuesday, but in a Sunday interview with The Associated Press, she said her sister was acting strange when they last spoke.
"She sounded very distressed," Adams told the AP. "She just told me: 'Know that I love you,' and she had to get off the phone very quickly."
Lanell Adams said her sister would not tell her what was wrong.
"Growing up we always had this thing: We say, 'Thou shall not lie' and you always have to tell the truth," Lanell Adams said. "I asked her, 'Thou shall not lie, Becca, are you OK?' She said, 'Don't ask me that right now. Just know that I love you.'"
Lanell Adams also said it is out of character for the family to be gone without notifying someone.
Authorities have conducted several searches in and around the family home. According to a news release, the FBI is assisting in the investigation.
"We have also enlisted the help of Alaska Search and Rescue Dogs, the Mat-Su Search and Rescue Dogs, and the Alaska State Troopers' helicopter," wrote Lt. David Ross of the Kenai Police Department.
Lanell Adams has reportedly flown from her home in Washington state to Kenai to assist in the search efforts. A fund to help with expenses connected to the search has been set up at Gofundme.com.
