Bravo is one step closer to getting in the scripted programming game. The network has ordered two scripted shows to pilot: "The Joneses" and "Rita."
"These pilots give us an opportunity to explore worlds and characters that are distinct from our unscripted programming," Andrew Wang, vice president of scripted development and production at Bravo, said in a statement. "Yet, both projects feature the memorable storylines and strong, unique characters that our Bravo audience craves.”
"The Joneses" hails from "Life Unexpected" creator Liz Tigelaar and is a remake of the 2009 flick of the same name. Demi Moore and David Duchovny starred in the film about a perfect -- fake -- family who move from neighborhood to neighborhood selling their lifestyle and expensive products to unsuspecting neighbors.
"Rita," an adaptation of the Danish show of the same name, comes from "Grey's Anatomy" and "Shameless" veteran Krista Vernoff. The show follows an outspoken private school teacher who is struggling to raise her three teens while balancing work drama.
Bravo has been attempting to break into the scripted genre for years. In September, the network started work on a series based on the movie "Heathers" and announced several other shows in development, including "Rita." It seems the network is being very careful in its scripted moves.
No casting for "The Jonses" or "Rita" has been announced.
